With the diverse cultures in San Francisco, finding all kinds of food from different cultures is not that difficult. Eating is one of the best things to do in San Francisco. That is one of the reasons I love living in San Francisco.

Today, I finally had time to go to U Dessert Story and had the Mango Bingsoo (Bingsu). I had this dessert when I was in the Philippines a few years ago. What U Dessert Story has is very good. It had just the right amount of sweetness and the toppings added more flavors. The only thing that was not a good as in the Philippines was the mango because the mangoes in the Philippines are the best.

Note: As you can see in the photo, this is a pretty huge portion. Therefore, unless you are really hungry, I believe this is good for two people.

Things to do in San Francisco - Chinatown Food (Egg Custard Tart)

Things to do in San Francisco - Delicious egg custard tart at Golden Gate Bakery in Chinatown. The egg custard tart at Golden Gate Bakery has a flaky crust and it is especially good when still warm from the oven. Usually, there is a line of people wait to but the delicious treat. The last time I was there, I waited for around 20 minutes. I was killing time so it was worth the wait. So if you are in Chinatown near Grant Street between Jackson & Pacific Streets, check out the egg custard tart at Golden Gate Bakery.

Note: There are times when they are closed for "vacation" for a number of months or randomly on certain days. Therefore, be prepared to be disappointed :-(  if they are not open.

Things to do in San Francisco - Food - Mochi

Things to do in San Francisco - Food - Mochi from Benkyodo Japantown. The blueberry mochi is my most favorite of all. I can have six of them in one sitting. However, all the other mochi at Benkyodo are delicious. The mochi is so soft like no other mochi I have ever had.

I am addicted to the bread pudding at Tartine Bakery and the Canneles de Bordeaux at Tader Joe's. Both the bread pudding and the Canneles de Bordeaux have this "custardy" portion that is so good.

The bread pudding from Tartine Bakery has seasonal fruit. It has just the right amount of sweetness to it. I personally do not like desserts that are too sweet. To most people, bread pudding does not sound that appealing. However, the bread pudding at Tartine Bakery is, in my opinion, the best thing they have at Tartine Bakery. If you are in the Mission neighborhood, check it out. Tartine Bakery is at the corner of 18th Street & Guerrero.

The Canneles de Bordeaux at Trader Joe's in in the frozen food section. Therefore, you will need to have a microwave oven. I cannot eat just one of them. The box comes with four delicious canneles and I have to eat all of them. There is a Trader Joe's at 4th Street (near Market) where the Old Navy store is located. There is another one on California & Hyde in Nob Hill. Another one in Fisherman's Wharf at Bay & Mason. Another one at Masonic near Geary in Laurel Heights.

Things to Do in San Francisco - Food at Ferry Building

Things to do in San Francisco: Food! San Francisco has a variety of excellent food. So many new and innovative stuff going on in San Francisco right now. The old standards are also just as good and maybe even improving.

Right now I am a bit obsessed with two new things:

- The Tacro (Taco Croissant) at Vive La Tarte in the Ferry Building. I've had the pulled pork/pineapple tacro and the chicken/avocado tacro and the jack-fruit BBQ tacro.  All three are delicious. Maybe the jack-fruit BBQ has a slight edge, It is also just the right size for me that my stomach is satisfied but I am not too full. I am looking forward to trying their other dessert stuff. (Update: The key lime croissant is also very good. It is a croissant that has the key lime filling. See last photo below.)

- The Impossible Burger. This is a vegetarian burger that has the taste and texture of a beef burger. The Impossible Burger I have tried are at Gotts Roadside in the Ferry Building. There are other restaurants in The City that serve the Impossible Burger. By the way, the Impossible Burger is more eco-friendly to eat because it requires less natural resources to produce.
