On a nice day, a good "things to do in San Francisco" is to bring your lunch or just relax a bit at one of the POPOS (privately owned public open space) around San Francisco. There are a bunch of them in the Financial District.
This second POPOS was, to my knowledge, the blueprint for the POPOS concept that started in 1985. The Transamerica Redwood Park at the foot of the Transamerica Building was done in 1972. It has tall redwood trees and a fountain with benches. It truly has an atmosphere of tranquility in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Financial District. It is easily accessible during business hours (closed on weekends).
Tip: An excellent place to grab lunch that is very close by is Sushirrito (475 Sansome Street) just across the street from the Transamerica Redwood Park (Clay Street side). See photos below of some of the sushi burrito items I like to order.
